The Independent Film Channel will be showing Abel Ferrera's Bad Lieutenant this month. The late Zoe Lund (Thana in Ms. 45) makes an appearance in a brief role.

Sorry for the long delay between updates. We had some technical difficulties upgrading to Mac OS 10.5. We confess, a lot of the work done here on Nunsploitation.Net is with old Classic software. Since 10.5 no longer supports Classic, we found ourselves scrambling to get updated versions of everything we use.

Trailers for Malabimba and Satan's Baby Doll added
Severin has released DVD versions of Malabimba and Satan's Baby Doll. We've added trailers for each of these films, again courtesy of Severin.

NyMpha gets U.S. distribution
Ivan Zuccon's nunsploitation horror film NyMpha has been picked up by a U.S. distributor!
MTI Films has slated NyMpha for a Spring 2008 release. We hav enot yet confirmed if the movie will go straight to DVD or if there will be some sort of theatrical release. MTI has not released a more concrete release date or details of the DVD they are planning. We'll post more news here as it comes in!
NyMpha is a dark, horror film about a convent whose practices are so severe, they border on torture. The convent guards a terrible secret tied to the building that houses the order. Check out Rod Zombie's review
3 Needles receives Ribbon of Hope
Thom Fitzgerald's nunsploitation AIDS triptych 3 Needles was honored by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences with a Ribbon of Hope Award recognizing and honouring excellence in television HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention.
In the movie, Chloe Sevigny plays a nun who is forced into a compromising situation when sent to proselytize in AIDS stricken Africa.
Joan Collins, nunsploitation, and DVD
Those are three words that probably shouldn't go together... but they do.
The Joan Collins nunsploitation movie I Don't Want to be Born has been slated for a December 18 release on DVD. UK fans may have already seen the region 2 DVD under the alternate title Monster.
The movie falls under the category of Exorcist rip offs in which a nun has been substituted for a priest. Since we're dealing with demonic possession, the premise lets the film makers get away with more naughty nun action than would normally be allowed.
Joan Collins doesn't don the habit in this one (she already did that in Sea Wife). Instead, she portrays a stripper pregnant with Satan's child. I Don't Want to be Born is now available for preorder in the U.S. from Movies Unlimited

Sunday, September 30, 2007 Black Narcissus screens in Dubuque, Iowa
Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's 1947 nunsploitation classic Black Narcissus will be screened as part of the Loras College Classic Film Educational Series in Dubuque, Iowa.
A classic film of the genre and a must-see of world cinema in general, Black Narcissus is scheduled to be screened October 10 at 7 p.m. in the Hoffmann Auditorium of the St. Joseph Hall of Science.
The best part is the screening is free. Nunsploitation fans who can make it are strongly encouraged to attend. This is a fantastic movie.

Saturday, September 15, 2007 Monica Bellucci and bottomless nuns
While not a nunsploitation movie, fans of the genre may want to catch Shoot 'Em Up which opened in theaters last week. The film features the gorgeous Monica Bellucci who portrays a prostitute who works in a brothel that caters to fetishes -- including the nun fetish. In one scene, star Clive Owen enters the brothel to be greeted by a prostitute wearing a nun's veil ... and bottomless chaps.
Bellucci herself has almost played a nun a couple of times. In Brotherhood of the Wolf, they never come right out and say she's a nun, but Bellucci's character works for the Vatican. She's undercover as -- what else? -- a prostitute.
In Passion of the Christ she plays Mary Magdalene, the repentent prostitute of the Bible.
Monday, September 10, 2007 Let Us Pray nunsploitation box set announced
Salvation Films has at last announced a release date for their long-awaited nunsploitation DVD boxset, Let Us Pray.
Apparently, Jess Franco's Les Demons will not be included in the set.
Let Us Pray is scheduled for an October 22 release in the U.K. The DVDs will be Region 2 PAL. We're working on getting a retailer who will offer the movies to our North American visitors. Keep watching the space for details!

Wednesday, September 5, 2007 Severin announces release date for Eroticist
Severin has announced an October 30 release date for their DVD treatment of Lucio Fulci's nunsploitation political comedy The Senator Likes Women. The title will be released under the alternative name of The Eroticist.
As strange as a nunsploitation political satire may sound, this is actually an excellent movie. It's funny and sexy and the political commentary is as relevant today as it was in the '70s. We were unsatisfied with the DVD released by Dagored, but Severin has an excellent track record so far. We're much more optimistic about this DVD release.

Sunday, September 2, 2007 Devils director nixes festival appearance
Devils director Ken Russell has canceled out of his appearance at the Shetland Film Festival in Scotland citing serious health problems.
Organizers are determined to continue with the festival without their guest of honor and screenings of Russell's films including The Devils are still on the schedule.
While certainly, it won't be as exciting without Ken Russell himself there to answer questions and to speak about his movies, this is still a fantastic opportunity for people to see his work on the big screen.

Monday, August 20, 2007 The Devils screens at Scotland film fest
The Shetland Arts Development Agency has launched a film festival -- the first for the island -- and they've handed the reign's over to noneother than Mark Kermode. This is a huge blessing to nunsploitation fans because Mark is a huge fan of director Ken Russell whose controversial film The Devils sparked the nunsploitation craze of the '70s.
As a result, Ken Russell himself will be a guest of honor for the festival which runs from September 6 through 9. Saturday, Sept. 8, boasts a Ken Russell double feature starting with Tommy at 6 p.m. followed by The Devils at 9 p.m.
Sunday is dedicated to Ken Russell. All films shown will be ones he directed. The event culminates with a Q&A session with Russell following the final film showing.

The 30th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley was Thursday. Forgive us for being a bit late with this, but for fans of both Elvis and nunsploitation, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to tell you about the Elvis nunsploitation movie.
Yes, there is such a thing! It's called Change of Habit and features Mary Tyler Moore as a nun and Elvis' love interest! Not even the King of rock and roll is immune to the allure of a wayward nun!
Sadly, Change of Habit was the last scripted Elvis film to be made and the King never again ventured into the realm of nunsploitation. ...at least, not that we know of!

Tuesday, August 7, 2007 Haw-Ang premieres in Phillipines
Indie nunsploitation film Haw-Ang debuts today in the Phillipines. Despite a steamy love scene between a nun and a rebel soldier, Haw-Ang made it past movie censors uncut -- a controversial first for a Phillipino film!
Haw_Ang also marks the directorial debut of Bong Ramos and it is the debut film for Sizzling Gambas Productions.
Doubt gets UK premiere
John Patrick Shanley's Pullitzer Prize-winning play Doubt is scheduled for its UK premiere this fall at North London's Tricycle Theatre. The play will run from November 22 through January 12. Nicolas Kent is slated to direct.
Doubt is also in the midst of being adapted into a Hollywood movie. Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman are already signed to star. Production is scheduled to begin in December.
Tuesday, July 31, 2007 Black Narcissus screens in New York
While nunsploitation fans on the west coast are enjoying a screening of The Devils, fans on the east coast can treat themselves to a screening of Black Narcissus.
This 1947 classic from Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger predates nunsploitation as a genre, but it dramatically captures much of what the genre represents -- shocking eroticism and nuns torn between their spiritual and earthly needs.
Black Narcissus screens 7 p.m. Thursday, August 2 at Bard College's Avery Arts Center in Annandale. Tickets are $7.50. Call (845) 758-7900.
Monday, July 30, 2007 Ken Russell's The Devils screens in Hollywood
West coast nunsploitation are going to get a rare opportunity to see Ken Russell's The Devils on the big screen.
The full 111-minute version of the film will be screened as part of the American Cinematheque's sixth annual Festival of Fantasy, Horror and Science Fiction. The screening is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., August 5 at the Egyptian Theatre, 6712 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, Calif.
This is a rare opportunity for fans to see this film uncut on the big screen. Nunsploitation.Net strongly recommends that, if you have the opportunity to attend this screening, GO!

We need some help translating Japanese for our database. Nothing major. We've got a list of credits for a movie written in Japanese characters. Online translating tools are proving to be woefully inadequate.
It's not even really translation. You just have to be able to read Japanese since it's only a list of names.
Both titles are available from our sponsor J-List.
Keep in mind that Japanese H-Manga are usually done in small print runs and are rarely reprinted. If you see something you like, get it. Many titles are out of print after only a few weeks. I'm sure you'll notice a few titles in our database that were available last year and now cannot be found anywhere.

Ghost Rider actor Eva Mendes says she had aspirations for nunhood before she was lured away by the big screen. But, now here childhood dreams are interfering with her career. Mendes said she was riddled with guilt over a sex scene with Joaquin Phoenix for her new film We Own the Night.
"I did very much want to be a nun when I was younger. I guess there is this little Catholic girl still inside me somewhere because otherwise I would probably have had no problem with that scene," Medes told reporters.

Amy Adams (Junebug) may be joining Devil Wears Prada star Meryl Streep in the big screen adaptation of John Patrick Shanley's Pullitzer Prize-winning play Doubt.
Adams would play Sister James, described as "the young nun in the middle of a tense confrontation in which a Bronx Catholic school principal (Streep) accuses a priest (Philip Seymour Hoffman) of pedophilia."
The role was played by Heather Goldenhershe in Doubt's run on Broadway.
Sunday, June 24, 2007 Germany's Epix Media picks up NyMpha
Ivan Zuccon's new nunsploitation horror film NyMpha has found a European distributor!
Germany's Epix Media will release a region 2, PAL DVD featuring English and German audio. The DVD will include trailers, a 10-minute, making-of documentary and a photo gallery.
NyMpha is the story of Sarah and the tortures she must endure to join the sadistic "New Order" convent.
The first is the 1947 version of La Monaca di Monza. This black and white film is the earliest film version of the Monza story that we're aware of, but there were probably earlier incarnations in the silent era.
The second is the 1962 Monza movie, also called La Monaca di Monza. This one is probably the closest to being historically accurate.

There's a new nunsploitation movie on the horizon!
Bryan Root's Dirty Habits made its North American premiere at the Winnipeg International Film Festival yesterday in Canada.
"When the idea of a nun and a prostitute stuck on an elevator was first suggested to me I laughed," Root said in a press statement. "It sounded like a joke -- which was a good start. But as I researched the subjects of prostitution and Catholic sisterhood it became more and less than funny."

A local celebrity in Philadelphia, Kathy Romano has been tapped to portray a nun in the new upcoming film about the Mighty Macs championship basketball team, Our Lady of Victory.
Romano is probably best known as Philadelphia 76ers in-arena host. She also appears on the Preston and Steve show on 93.3 WMMR.
Sunday, April 22, 2007 Meryl Streep tapped for Doubt
Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada) has been cast for the role of Sister Aloysius in the big screen adaptation of John Patrick Shanley's play Doubt. Streep will play a tough nun who suspects a priest of sexually abusing young boys. Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has been cast in the role of Father Flynn.
Coincidentally, Anne Hathaway, another Devil Wears Prada alumnus, confessed last year that she once seriously thought about becoming a nun....
Production for Doubt is scheduled to begin in December. The play earned a Pullitzer Prize.

Black Narcissus is a classic film of world cinema and a fantastic nunsploitation film. It's hard to believe this sexually charged drama was made in the 1940s. We always recommend that nunsploitation fans -- actually any movie fans -- should take the opportunity to see this movie whenever they can.

Will we see an official DVD version of Ken Russell's The Devils?
The current rights holder, Warner Bros. has been sitting on this film, yet the only official release we've seen from them is a heavily edited VHS version.
They've been making allusions that they are planning on giving the movie the DVD treatment. Most recently, Fangoria briefly mentioned that an official Devils DVD was "in the planning stages".
In other words, they're still thinking about it.

It was, perhaps, the craziest season of reality TV ever to grace the scene. The lion of U.K. cinema, Ken Russell, joined the cast of Celebrity Big Brother only to be driven out by the foul-mouthed Jade Goody.
"It was an evil atmosphere. That's what freaked me out," Russell told The Times. "I've never had to live in that atmosphere and I decided I wasn't going to then. I thought Jade and her mother were both evil."
Goody's foul mouth later lead to an international rift between the U.K. and India after she insulted Bollywood superstar Shilpa Shetty. The incident forced the intervention of British Prime Minister Tony Blair! How's that for reality TV?

Monday, January 8, 2007 Devils director Ken Russell leaves Big Brother ... already!
Acclaimed director of The Devils, Ken Russell has left the reality TV show Big Brother just two days after he arrived!
Russell got into a disagreement with former Big Brother star Jade Goody. He broke the rules of a task by helping himself to a plate of cheese instead of being served by another contestant. Leaving the show, Russell said: "I'm a big old fuddy duddy and some of the surprises were a little bit too much for someone of my sensibility."
In spite of the tiff, Russell's wife, Elize, insists he had a good time. "He made the choice because he could see things getting worse but he said he had the time of his life," she said.

Devils director Ken Russell joins Big Brother
Ken Russell, the director credited with sparking a golden age of nunsploitation films with The Devils, will be appearing on the reality TV series Big Brother.
At age 79, Russell will be the oldest Big Brother contestant on record. The lauded U.K. director joins other celebrities including Dirk Benedict (A-Team, Battlestar Galactica), Bollywood diva Shilp Shetty, and Michael Jackson's brother Jermaine, among others.
"I'm a Big Brother fan - against my better judgement," Mr Russell told The Telegraph & Argus. "You get the nastiest bunch of people in there but it is compulsive viewing."
The Devils is now available on DVD. If you had your order canceled, the DVD is back in stock, so go ahead and re-order it!

BBC's The Convent will be headed to Australia's ABC for the 2007 season.
The show is a reality TV series featuring four lay women who agree to join a convent for 40 days and 40 nights. The series will be renamed "The Abbey" for its Australian audience.

We review Convent of Sinners, a wild and crazy take on Denis Diderot's novel La Religieuse delivered with so much blasphemy, nudity, lesbianism and naked-self flagellation, it has to be a D'Amato film!
We also review the French sex comedy Les Novices featuring the lovely Brigitte Bardot, last year's nun horror slasher The Nun and who would have thought that we'd ever see a nunsploitation flick by Stephen J. Cannel? No surprises that Demon Hunter turns out to be a turd.
