Synopsis: Arn Magnusson (Joakim Nätterqvist) is born in 1150 on Arnas farm in West Gothia in the western part of Sweden. As a young boy, he suffers a fatal illness, but when his parents pray for him, he miraculously rises from the dead. The parents pledge the boy to God. He grows up in a monestary and becomes an educated young man and a skilled swordsman, thanks to the training of Brother Guilbert (Vincent Perez), a monk and former Knight Templar.
Arn meets and falls in love with Cecilia Algotsdotter (Sofia Helin), but a cruel and jealous world forces them apart.
Cecilia is imprisoned in a convent under the watchful eye of the cruel and twisted Mother Rikissa (Bibi Andersson) who seeks to break Cecilia through a series of torturous whippings and bleedings.
Arn is sent away as a Knight Templar to the Holy Land, where war is raging between Christians and Muslims.
They both have to fight to survive, they have to learn how to confront evil and overcome physical hardship. Their painful separation causes their faith in God and his goodness to waver — though not their faith in each other and their confidence that they will one day be reunited.
Review: It's unusual to find a nunsploitation film with such a big budget, and, to be fair, Arn: The Knight Templar isn't strictly a nunsploitation film, although the nunsploitation elements are strong and cannot be denied. Only half the story fits the genre, the story of Cecilia Algotsdotter (Sofia Helen), Arn's lover. Read More....
